Raisin Biscuit Update
The Garibaldi Biscuits
have arrived! I’ve been waiting for this day for 10 years… OK, so maybe
the event isn’t that big, but I was certainly excited to open the box.
My verdict? Sadly, they’re not quite as good as my Raisin Biscuits used
to be. While very similar, there are two big differences:
- They don’t have as many raisins in them, detracting from the sweetness and texture.
- The biscuit is fairly dry compared to the relatively soft biscuit I remember.
Oh, well. The search for my long-lost treat continues.

I hate it when something is better in my memory than it turns out to be after years of waiting. I will probably go back to Australia someday and find that all these things I am craving aren’t quite as good as I have built them up to be (although I don’t fully believe that at this point). Perhaps you will still find your perfect raisin biscuits. Good luck!
yes I miss these raisin biscuits also! They are part of my childhood. in the fall of ‘03 my daughter and I enjoyed some cookies in Trapani Sicily at the open air market on Piazza Mercato di Pesce on the northern waterfront. which tasted very similar to me altho they looked different - the raisin filling was sandwiched between two rectangular bars. They were not packaged, just made fresh and sold by the piece from a glass case. We dream of returning to Trapani in hopes of finding these cookies again! If I am ever able to recreate this taste I will send you the recipe -
I live in Osaka, Japan and I found something interesting. A pretty big snack company named Tohato makes a raisin biscut that is exactly the same as the old sunshine brand (though much smaller and in squares) It is wonderful!!! [http://tohato.jp/products/allraisin/](http://tohato.jp/products/allraisin/) is the place to look and maybe you can order in America too.
That sounds great, and what little I was able to find about them on the web sounded just like what I’ve been searching for. Sadly, I couldn’t find anyone selling them in the U.S. I’ll have to keep my eye out for them when I run into import stores around town. Thanks for the tip! –Tyler
Any further info on these cookies? I've been tracking them, too. Have ordered Garabaldi so was disquieted when the review came in at 6 of 10. Any more info on the Tohato? Thx.
I think the word is they've been discontinued by Keebler...
